Muharram ties hearts together in Iran’s Mehriz City

The mourning month of Muharram is the time of the year for people in Mehriz to hold epic ceremonies.

Among the rituals observed during Muharram in Mehriz, Yazd Province, is Mahale Gardi ceremony, in which lovers of Imam Hussein (AS) walk around old neighborhoods of the city and invite people to take part in the mourning ceremony.

Distributing votive foods and drinks and animal sacrifice are part of the Mahale Gardi ceremony that starts from the second day of Muharram.
